Music composed by Steve CunoLong ago I gave up dreams of finding fame and fortune as a composer. But thanks to the Internet, at least I can share. From time to time I’ll load some of my favorites on this page. Click on the arrows in the left-hand column to play. I hope someone enjoys them.

“Once Upon a Romance” I fell in love at 15 and carried that torch for years. I composed this at age 20 and named it after her. This caused a tiny problem when I married Paula, who loved the song but not the title. Hence the above title. I suppose now I could restore it to its original title, but then, who knows how my first love would feel about that.

“Preciosa” A romantic jazz tune composed in September 2011. I had been trying to write around a certain motif. After hours of no progress, I set it aside and just played what I felt. This was the result.

“Uncanny” The five-note motif is based on a synonym for beauty, which I plotted on the keyboard after assigning a letter of the alphabet to each key. It is a trick I learned from Dr. Ronald Williams, who was my piano professor all those years ago at University of Nevada, Reno. Composed and recorded in September-October 2011.

“Big Deal” Blues tune written in 2008 for fun. Updated the arrangement in 2011.
“Hope” I started writing this in summer of 2007, completed it in February 2010
“Basil Drinks Himself Blue” Blues tune written in 1994 or so
“Faeries” A feeble nod to Tchaikovsky waltzes, written just for fun in 2008
“Boogie with the Devil” Fun and fast, written January, 2010
“Calm, Calm” Romance-lullaby written in 2008 for someone dear
“Evening Rain” Composed, surprisingly enough, one evening when it happened to be raining. I wrote this one, at age 16, for my first love. Since she lived a considerable distance away, four years would pass before I would have the chance to play it for her in person. Apologies for the quick and dirty performance in this recording.
“Kathleen” Short jazz waltz written in 1974.
“Little C Minor Concerto” — Written some 20 years ago. My excuse for the thin arrangement is the fact that I recorded it quite a few years ago on an old Kurzweil K250, which limited me to 12-notes at a time. So much for excuses. I hope you like it.
